Relax | Skin and Co. Giveaway

Guys, I think I’m stressed and didn’t even know it! Last week, I woke up with intense jaw pain and a clicking when I opened my mouth. My mom has experienced TMJ issues for years, so I asked her if that’s what I might be experiencing. She said I’m probably going to bed stressed and am clenching my jaw throughout the night — hence the jaw and tooth pain.

The same week, I woke up with crazy acid reflux or gas pain in my stomach. I almost asked Matt to take me to Urgent Care it was so bad! Turns out it was just a touch of gastritis — a few Tums and a glass of water got me feeling much better.

Both of these symptoms can most likely be attributed to stress. Consciously, I didn’t even feel stressed or burned out, but apparently my body and subconscious were saying otherwise. There’s been a lot going on with my family recently, and I guess all of that was catching up with me. So, I’m trying to learn how to truly decompress, destress, and relax. Here’s what I’ve tried so far. (Pst! There’s a sneaky giveaway at the end!)

Lots Of Water – We all know water is good for us and that none of us actually drink enough of it. The link between lack of water and stress is actually well documented! All of our organs, including our brains, need water to function properly. If you’re dehydrated, your body isn’t running well — and that can lead to stress. So, I got myself a super cute mason jar and some fun straws and am doing my best to drink 4-5 of these monster glasses of water daily. It’s made my skin look much better as well!

Hot Baths and Lavender – I am the kind of girl who will take a bath every night if my schedule allows. I have extremely tense muscles naturally, and obviously stress doesn’t help matters. Epsom salts have been my friend for years and recently I have been tapping into the power of lavender. Lavender is known as a calming and relaxing herb and has frequently been used for insomnia, anxiety, depression, and natural stress relief. The lovely people at Skin and Co. sent me a bottle of their Fresh Lavender Body Oil. It’s the perfect item to apply after a hot bath before climbing into bed. And just a little bit goes such a long way! I’ve also been enjoying their Sicilian Light Serum — I take a pea size amount and gently massage my face and sore jaw muscles before bed.

Actually Reading Before Bed – I can’t tell you the number of times I say I’m going to read a bit of my book before bed and end up just turning on my new favorite Netflix show. I like to think this is winding me down for the night, but in all honesty I know it’s probably not the best way to prepare to shut down and go to sleep. But I’m trying to be better. I’ve started making a ritual out of shutting down the electronics and giving myself at least thirty minutes to read before sleep.  Currently I’m enjoying reading The Plantagenets: The Warrior King and Queens Who Made England. I know, nerd alert!

I know we could all use a bit of de-stressing and pampering. So, the lovely people at Skin & Co. have provided me with a few products I will be giving away to you!

Skin and Co. is a 50-year-old Italian company that creates natural products using botanical oils and truffles. They feel luxurious, smell incredible, and are free of parabens, or harsh chemicals!

Umbrian Truffle Lotion – This stuff smells like heaven! It’s like  food for your skin. It contains anti-oxidants, vitamins and acids essential for skin health, and the olive oil and shea butter in the formula create an intensive moisture treatment.

5 Tricks for Healthy Skin

Keeping my skin healthy from my face to my feet seems like a twenty-four hour job sometimes. I’m lucky to live in a city where temperatures are moderate, but that doesn’t mean that my skin doesn’t get worn by the elements. Here are five must-haves I use to keep my skin feeling fresh and supple regardless of the season.

Organic Rosehip Oil: After washing my face at night, I generally apply toner, which in my case is simply witch hazel. But what keeps my face bright and moisturized is a small dime-size portion of rosehip oil that I spread over my face and décolletage.

Good ol’ H2O: You can always find me toting a bottle of water or a reusable cup everywhere I go. Even if I’m going to a friend’s house or a restaurant, I usually have a full one ready in the car just in case I didn’t drink enough wherever I was.

Multivitamin: After breakfast, it’s my routine to take a multivitamin to make sure my body and my skin have everything they need in the way of nutrients.

Organic Shea Butter: A big tub of this sits right outside my shower, ready for me to slather on. Shea butter provides a thick cream that is absorbed into my skin overnight and creates wonderfully soft and supple skin when I wake up. Extra goes on the bottoms of my feet, followed by a clean pair of socks.

30 spf Sunscreen: Being fair-skinned, I’m apt to burn easily, but everyone should want to prevent skin cancer and promote skin health instead of becoming a leathery statue. I always make sure my face, chest, ears, hands, and tops of my feet (if I’m wearing sandals that day) get a coat, as these are typically the exposed body parts.
