The Impossible is a drama, that follows one family’s incredible fight for survival during the 2004 Thailand tsunami. Just as Henry (Ewan McGregor), his wife Maria (Naomi Watts) and their children are settling into a relaxing vacation at a Thai resort, one of the worst natural disasters in history hits. The dedicated parents must fight to keep their family alive and together in the midst of extreme tragedy.
First of all, yes, I know that this movie isn’t nominated for Best Picture. BUT, Naomi Watts is nominated for her role in the film and I really just needed an excuse to talk about this movie.
To be honest, I wasn’t planning to see the film initially, but we had a free ticket and I’m not really into hobbits. I went in with no expectations and was blown away. The film does an amazing job of showing acts of true compassion and self sacrifice in the midst of unimaginable tragedy.
You will cry during this movie. Between the realistic make-up and sets to the touching and beautiful performances by the entire cast, I had to continually remind myself that I was watching a movie. Granted, I am a crier (I’ll weep at the end of most Rom-coms), but when the eldest son, Lucas, is reunited with his two little brothers, I. Was. A. Mess.
Go see this movie. Bring tissues and do something that involves laughing afterwards though.
Because this is a recurring column, here’s an outfit similar to what Naomi Watts wears in the beginning of the film.
