Things To Try This Month – March

March is here! It’s not weird to write 2013 anymore and St. Patty’s day is just around the corner. Today is Dentist’s Day and National Frozen Food Day so… there’s that.

Below are a few things I’ve discovered this month. Tried any of them? Click on the pictures to buy/ see these items.

Happy March!

MUSIC

Edith Piaf – If you don’t know who this lady is, you’re lying. Well, you’ve probably heard at least one of her songs if you’ve ever been to an Italian restaurant or seen Wall-E, Inception or Saving Private Ryan. Edith was a French singer and one of the country’s greatest international stars.

EDITH

Search her on spotify and be transported to a tiny French bistro in the thumping heart of Paris. Her voice is breathtaking and timeless. Need a little getaway? Try a little Edith Piaf. (And maybe a bubble bath and glass of red wine to go with.)

GADGETS

Togs iPhone Case- Anything that combines both function and fashion has my vote. Togs Mobile cases has a mirror and pocket on the back to hold your credit card or license. Below is a picture of the one I got and I have to say I’m digging it. I like being able to just stick my debit card in the case and run into the store without having to bring my entire purse in too!

COOL FIND

Kiehl’s Since 1891 – Calendula Herbal Extract Alcohol-Free TonerKiehl’s is a cosmetics company known for its unorthodox marketing approach and straightforward packaging. I first read about this company in one Seth Godin’s books. While walking around the mall waiting for a movie, my boo and I wandered into the hip pharmacy. The saleswoman was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and, coincidentally, from the same town in Pennsylvania as my Mom!

I’ve never used a toner because most are pretty harsh and my skin is super sensitive. This toner, however, has calendula petals, no alcohol and no synthetic drying agents. It’s extremely soothing and great in reducing redness, acne and skin irritation. I’ve been using it for about two weeks now and I’m hooked.

TV

The Americans- This show premiered on Fox at the end of January and stars Keri Russel (Waitress) and Matthew Rhys (Brothers and Sisters). The show is set during the Cold War of the 1980s and tells the story of Elizabeth and Philip Jennings, two Soviet KGB officers posing as American citizens and a married couple.

I find this show extremely interesting for a couple reasons. The first is that the heroes, the people the audience is supposed to root for, are two KGB officers who hate the United States. While watching, I find myself hoping that the FBI won’t discover them or they will succeed in the mission we are following in a particular episode. I love America, don’t get me wrong. But the writers do an amazing job in showing the humanity of these two people who are willing to do everything to bring down the good ‘ole U.S. of A. The second reason is that even though we all know how the Cold War ends, I’m still totally involved and wrapped up in the conflict and find myself asking what’s going to happen. That’s good storytelling. Third,  Keri Russel and Matthew Rhys give incredible performances week after week. Kerri is tough but wounded at the same time and Matthew Rhys is tough, wicked smart and adorable. (Plus he has a Welsh accent in real life. What’s not to love!?)
