Don’t Worry, Be Happy

I woke up with a headache, stubbed my toe on the fridge, poured cereal not realizing I’m practically out of milk, and best of all it’s Monday.

Sometimes life sucks, and sometimes we think life sucks. We’re unhappy with our jobs or social lives or roommates or college classes. We let ourselves slip into the ‘grass is greener on the other side mentality’, and we convince ourselves life is going to be the way it’s going to be and we stay unhappy. This is a dangerous place to be. Once we’ve allowed ourselves to sink into this state of discontentment with our situation, we often become stuck. It’s harder to recognize the good in our lives, the things we should be happy about.

Sure, our jobs may be difficult at times, or we may not have the job we want, but we have a job. Sure, one of our college professors could be the absolute worst, but we’re getting a college education. Our roommate could have an earthshattering snore, but we have a bed to sleep in.

Sometimes letting the little things getting under our skin blinds us from the many blessings we have in our lives. Let go of the little things. Let go of the frustration. [Warning: cheese fest], make smiling the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning, and think to yourself [or belt it out, whatever] I choose to be happy today.

And life will start to look up.
