Beach Bag Essentials

  • Pareo: packing a beautiful print pareo can be just what you need at the beach if the wind picks up, need a clean place to sit, or if you plan on grabbing a margarita at sunset. With numerous ways to tie it up, you won’t need to pack an entire outfit to change into.

  • Sunscreen: I try to lather up even before putting on my bikini, but I always bring a bottle of my favorite to reapply. I love Hawaiian Tropic’s Sheer Touch SPF 30 for its coconut scent and moisturizing qualities. Neutrogenia UltraSheer Dry-Touch is also a favorite with its ultra light and non-comedogenic formula. Don’t forget lip balm with SPF too!

  • Reusable water bottle: Fill it up with H2O before you leave the house and any chance you get after. It’s easy for dehydration to sneak up on you even if you’re only laying out. A bad dehydration headache is only the beginning of a summer-killing mood.

  • Book: The beach just might be my favorite place to read.

  • Notebook and pen: There’s something about the serenity yet playful scene of the beach that gets my creative juices flowing and in order to not miss a great idea or even just to write out your grocery list.

  • Sunglasses: Protect your eyes and hide that you just stared a bit too long at that surfer coming out of the water.

One thing I don’t recommend bringing is your cell phone. Salt water and sand are not friends to electronics, and on top of that, disconnecting will give you the opportunity to truly be present and enjoy your surroundings and company.
