Inspired by Project Runway: Bold Prints

I don’t know if you know this about me, but I’ve seen every episode of Project Runway. While I don’t agree with the judges’ critiques each week, I do find every runway show inspiring and influencing my weekly wardrobe.

This past week’s episode was all about prints. The designers got to sketch and create their own textiles, then design and produce a look these helped to highlight. With fall here – deep colors, layers of khaki, green and oxblood – I find the idea of combining rich colors with a bold and vibrant print completely lovely and refreshing.

Try pairing a higher end staple, i.e. black dress or solid, fitted slacks, with a cheaper, fast fashion, bold print. Your staple will keep the look grounded, but who doesn’t love a bold shirt from Target, H&M or Forever21? Below are a few of my recent vibrant, fast fashion favorites.

Designer Phillip Lim has a new line at Target that is loaded with fun prints and textiles – each around $30.

1. Boom Sweater | 2. Floral Peplum | 3. Animal Print Sweater

If you’ve recently saved up enough to purchase a higher end staple – pants, black dress, etc. – you might want to check out a few I’ve come across on the interwebs to ground your look and make it come together on a solid base. Now clear the Runway!
