Mother Daughter Book Club

I live 1,998 miles from my mom and sister. Obviously, we don’t get to go shopping together on a lazy Saturday or dish over dinner a few times a week. We Skype when we can and FaceTime even more.

On a recent Skype session, we thought it would be fun to create a virtual book club. The fact that my mom, sister and I have vastly different taste in books would not deter us! We decided it would be great to learn something new and grow together as cultured ladies and such.

For our first book, we settled on The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It was highly recommended to my mom by one of her dearest friends who just so happens to be a research librarian.

Our plan is to read a few chapters each week and discuss them on a weekly Skype call.

Being far away from family can be really difficult. I’m excited to attempt this small activity that will make us feel close even though we are oh-so-far apart.

How do you stay close with family that lives far away?
