First Family Visit

Please excuse my delay in writing this post! The beginning of this week has been my busiest yet! The rest of the week should be much calmer and I’m hoping to get caught up on blog posts and videos.

This past weekend, Matt and I had our first visit from family since we moved to DC. Matt’s little sister Ann and her boyfriend Alex were in Virginia for a wedding and were kind enough to swing by downtown DC for a day of sightseeing and, of course, eating!

Before they arrived, we picked up a few pastries from the bakery downstairs. Then we showed them our tiny apartment, sipped coffee, and caught up.

After being sufficiently caffeinated, we wandered down to the White House and the Mall. It was fairly quiet that day which made for easy picture taking.

Right across from the White House is one of our favorite restaurants in DC. The Old Ebbitt Grill has been a steakhouse since 1856! Every time we’ve been, it’s been packed with tourists and locals alike, enjoying fresh fish, oysters, and other classic American dishes. We popped in for lunch and enjoyed fried chicken, waffles and burgers — yum!

On our way back to the apartment, we made a stop at the National Portrait Gallery. It’s so close to our place and a wonderful little museum to show to visitors.

I had to work that evening so Matt took our guests to mass and a few more sites before they headed back out of town. I hope they had a great time! I love when family comes to town! Being able to show them this new city we are settling into was perfectly lovely.

Come back soon!
