Recent Favorite Things and Lessons Learned

I know you’re kind of supposed to post your favorite things at the end of the month in the blogger world. I guess I’m breaking the rules! I felt like I hadn’t done one of these videos in a while and I do have a few items to share.

I hope you all are staying warm and having a lovely February.

My Skin Care Routine, Currently

I’ve talked about skin care quite a bit here on my blog.  Because I’ve been pretty open about my struggles with acne (here), several companies have reached out to me about their various products and systems for acne treatment over the last few years.

I’m typically very hesitant to try most of them and I certainly won’t review any of them if I haven’t tried it myself and seen positive results over several weeks. Well, I’ve got a review for you today that I’m very excited about!

I’ve tried everything from the Proactiv system to a regime of only natural products, and neither seemed to keep my skin clear for more than a week or two. I was intrigued by Exposed Skin Care because they use a combination of acne medications and natural extracts in their products. The company sent me their expanded acne kit which includes: a facial cleanser, clearing tonic, acne treatment serum, clear pore serum, an exfoliant, and a moisturizer.

I have to say I was a little overwhelmed by the amount of products when I first opened the box. To someone who likes to keep my routine quick and simple, this seemed like a lot of steps. But if you struggled with acne, you keep trying!

The first week, I did the full regime starting with the cleanser (I used it on my Clarisonic brush at night and just my hands in the morning), then the clearing tonic, the acne treatment serum, the clear pore serum, and finally the moisturizer. I started noticing a change in the texture of my skin after just three days! My skin felt smoother, the redness and scarring started to fade, and any breakouts around my chin and mouth started to heal.

As I’ve gotten to know the products and seen how they’ve reacted with my skin over time, I’ve been able to simplify the routine and my skin has been noticeably and consistently clear for over a month now (fingers crossed)! At night I use the cleanser on my Clarisonic, then a little bit of the tonic and clear pore serum, then I finish with the moisturizer. In the morning I just wash my face with warm water in the shower, then use a bit of the tonic, the acne treatment serum, and finish with the moisturizer.

Of all of the products I have to say my favorites are the Clearing Tonic and the Acne Treatment Serum.

The Clearing Tonic is a salicylic based toner that also has green tea and passion flower extracts to soothe and depuff the skin. It smells amazing and feels so refreshing!

The Acne Treatment Serum has a benzoyl peroxide base and also has tea tree oil to kill bacteria and promote healing. It smells strongly of tea tree oil and leaves my skin feeling cool and calm.

While the cleanser and moisturizer work well, I think my favorite cleanser is still from my Dad’s line. Like the Exposed Skin Care cleanser, it’s a salicylic cleanser but I find that Dad’s is more hydrating.

My “no makeup” face.

I was definitely hesitant to try the Exposed Skin Care line, but wow, do the results speak for themselves! If you struggle to find an acne system that clears your skin, I recommend giving this one a go!

I was not paid to write this review. The company sent the products to me and asked for my honest feedback. All opinions are my own.
